The words “thank you” stay in my heart
Even when my partner does something I’m grateful for, I sometimes don’t say anything all day.
Scenes
- The moment to speak passes — I start to thank my partner as they clear the breakfast table, but the morning slips by while I take care of the next thing.
- A word lost to the to-do list — Once the dishes are washed and we each start our tasks, my thanks stay in my heart.
- Gratitude lingers after the moment — The moment I notice I’m grateful and the moment I say it are different. Once I start on the next thing, those words get pushed aside.
- Hold on to today’s gratitude — If you write down one thing you were grateful for today, you may find the words when it comes back to you at day’s end.
- Words that remain after the day — Reading the line again that evening can show you that noticing what you’re grateful for and expressing it are two different things.
