Reading the threat, the morning slipped away
After seeing the message saying they’d contact my workplace, I couldn’t even write a reply, and the whole morning went by.
Scenes
- I saw a message saying they’d contact my workplace — The words “I’ll contact your workplace” are on the screen. While I hesitate over whether to reply, the whole morning goes by.
- I close the screen, but my hand reaches for it — I close the screen, then open it again. Even before I write a reply, those words keep catching my eye.
- Threatening words and what actually happens are different — With online harassment, it helps to separate threatening words from actions that have actually been confirmed. Whether they contacted your workplace is something to check separately.
- For today, write down only what you saw — Tonight, write down the words you saw exactly as they appeared. If you note separately whether anything has actually been confirmed, you can take your time before replying.
- We can check the rest next time — Writing it down won’t make the threat go away right away. We can look together at whether they actually made contact and what you might want to protect after that.
