A Small Place on the First Night
This is a story for anyone sitting among boxes on the first night after moving, unsure where to begin.
Scenes
- It’s the first night after moving, and I haven’t unpacked a thing. — I’m sitting in front of the boxes, scissors in hand, waiting for the house to feel like mine.
- The more I want to start well, the slower my hands become. — I thought my feelings would follow once I started unpacking, but when my heart stops, so do my hands. The more I want to do well from the first day, the more small tasks get pushed aside.
- Even taking out one cup was put off. — At 10:40 p.m., I only touch the tape on the “Kitchen” box with the scissors. It should take just one cup, but my hands stop.
- Actions make a place before feelings do. — Positive action isn’t about moving only after a good feeling appears. One small action becomes a sign that calls for the next one.
- Take out just one cup and put it where you’ll use it often. — Today, take out just one cup and put it where you’ll use it often. Even if you don’t feel at ease right away, the next thing to do may become a little clearer.
- The first night can continue with just one cup. — Even if the house doesn’t feel comfortable right away, the action you chose remains. The next night, that spot may be the first thing you notice, like a small glimmer.
