After the meeting, I come back and start figuring out my living expenses.
Even after returning to my desk following a meeting about living expenses in old age, I find myself calculating how much would be enough.
Scenes
- The numbers keep circling in my head — I got back to my desk after the meeting, but I can’t stop wondering how much to budget for living in old age.
- What a monthly total can’t show — The meeting handout lists an estimated monthly amount, but leaves blank what I’d need to keep living as I do now.
- What you need and the day you want — When essentials and things you want are lumped into one number, it’s easy to focus on what to cut and erase the day you want, too.
- Tonight, write down just one — Today, pick one expense from the past month that you want to keep in old age, and just check roughly how much it was.
- Some of it is still unknown — That one item you wrote down is a starting point. You can take more time to work through expenses that change month to month and parts of life you haven’t decided on yet.
