Even when the afternoon starts late, night runs late again.

It’s the weekend. Minseo wakes up well past noon. When her family heads out for an evening walk, her day slips into the night again.

After waking late and starting the afternoon, Minseo puts off bedtime even after her family leaves. Another weekend turns day and night upside down.

At two on a weekend afternoon, Minseo wakes up late and walks into the living room. Mom says she’s going for an evening walk with Minseo’s younger sibling after dinner. Minseo says she’ll come too, but goes to her room and passes the time on her phone. Evening slips by. Mom opens the door to check, but Minseo is still awake. In the counseling room, Saebyeok listens as Minseo describes how late her day has drifted. Rather than trying to change her bedtime all at once, Saebyeok suggests first noticing when she gets up in the morning. Instead of answering, Minseo looks down at the phone in her hand.

A day-and-night schedule turned upside down

Trying to change your bedtime all at once can feel overwhelming. You can start by looking at where your day begins.

When you wake up late on a weekend, what do you find yourself doing next?

We’ve seen the hours from waking late in the afternoon to staying up late at night. Before wrestling with bedtime, looking at where the day began might offer a clue. If your nights drift late in a similar way, you can tell us about that too.
