You keep checking your score and miss the next page
This is for students who keep checking their mock-exam scores and answers in the afternoon study room, unable to start the next task.
Scenes
- I start by checking my score, and the afternoon slips away — With the mock-exam score sheet beside me, I kept checking my answers again and again. I still hadn’t opened the next page.
- I start needing certainty before I can study — It feels like I can start if I check just once more, but the more I check, the bigger the chance of being wrong looks.
- I look at the answer numbers instead of the next question — At four in the afternoon, I held my pencil but kept switching between the answer sheet and my expected score, repeating the same calculation.
- Checking brings brief relief, but makes starting harder — The more anxious I feel, the more I want to check my score first. But that brief relief makes checking come before studying.
- Cover the score sheet and read for ten minutes — Turn the score sheet over and read the first page for ten minutes. Even with the anxiety still there, one line will catch your eye.
- You don’t have to wait for the anxiety to disappear — Missing ten minutes doesn’t mean you failed. Just leave the place where you stopped in the next record, and start from that page.
