I meant to do it once I felt better
This is a story for a friend who keeps putting off things they want to do, even on a weekend afternoon at home.
Scenes
- I put good things off until next week — Even at home, I keep putting off what I want to do. I meant to start when I felt moved, but my hands stay still until then.
- Even while resting, I wait for permission — It would be easy once I started, but first I wonder if it’s okay to do it now. Even days off have come with the pressure to spend them well.
- Three in the afternoon, I pick up a cup, then put it down — I go to the kitchen for water, check only my phone, and come back. The cup stays where it is, while the afternoon quickly fades.
- Sometimes the feeling follows the action — You don’t have to feel good before you move. Only after moving a little is there room for your feelings to follow—but waiting alone reverses that order.
- Choose just one five-minute action — Today, choose one thing you want to do that has a clear ending. You may not feel excited after finishing, but you’ll move one square from where you stopped.
- The record of moving a little remains — Doing it once doesn’t mean you’ll keep moving well. Still, the experience of choosing action before waiting for the feeling stays like a little sparkle in your pocket. Let’s try again.
