After the meeting, I get back to my desk and my coworker’s praise is the first thing that comes to mind.
My idea was accepted in the meeting, too, but on the way back I keep thinking about the praise my coworker got.
Scenes
- The praise went to the person beside me — My idea was chosen in the meeting, but on the way back, all I can think about is the team lead praising my coworker.
- Where did my words land? — I open the meeting handout and see the chosen idea written there. The praise went to my coworker, but my idea made it into the work, too.
- Praise stays with me longer — When I compare myself, I latch onto the praise that stands out. It’s easy to miss what I did until I look for it.
- I write down what I contributed — Tonight, try writing one line in your notes about what you contributed in the meeting. It’s okay if you don’t feel better right away.
- Their praise and my work can both be true — The praise my coworker got belongs to them, and what I contributed hasn’t disappeared. I can leave with both in mind today.
