When someone asks you to send your location
On a busy Monday morning as you get ready for work, someone you met online keeps asking you to send your location today, leaving you unsure what to do.
Scenes
- They keep asking me to send my location today — While getting ready for work, you see a message from someone you met online. Your hand stops when they ask you to keep telling them where you are today.
- I’m afraid they’ll suspect me if I say no — You worry that saying no might cost you the relationship, and wonder if you should pretend it’s fine and send your location. Proving trust never has to come before your safety.
- 7:30 a.m., in front of the share button — At 7:30 on Monday morning, before leaving for the bus stop, you open the location-sharing screen. They urge you to turn it on now, saying you’re taking too long to reply.
- When trust becomes a test — Saying they can trust you only if you share your location can become pressure that narrows your choices, rather than a way to understand the relationship. First, you get to decide the range and duration of sharing.
- Leave a line saying you won’t share it — After checking the messages and location permissions first, try writing: “I won’t share my location. Please contact me through this chat if you need to.” You don’t have to reply right away.
- What comes after setting a boundary matters more — If their response becomes harsh, I won’t keep talking and trying to persuade them. First, I’ll preserve the records, then look separately at the safety of my account and my real-world surroundings.
