Every Sunday night, I weigh living together against living apart again.
Every Sunday night, I find myself thinking it over again: should we live together or apart? I look at more than what I hope for on each path.
Scenes
- I think about it again before Monday comes. — Sunday night. I sit on the sofa, weighing whether we should live together or apart again. Monday hasn’t even come, but it feels like I have to decide.
- I don’t want to give up either. — Living together could bring us closer; living apart could let me keep the life I have now. Neither feels easy to choose.
- Living together would change some things. — Living together also means sharing chores and adjusting to each other’s routines. Living apart lets each of you keep the days you’ve built.
- Look at feelings and daily life separately. — Before deciding, I separate what I want from what I’d have to manage after choosing. Looking at the responsibilities doesn’t make my feelings any less important.
- Tonight, try writing just two lines. — On paper, write one line about ‘what would change every day if we lived together’ and one about ‘what I could keep if we lived apart.’ It’s okay if no answer comes right away.
- What comes into view before the decision — The two lines on the page aren’t today’s answer. But they may show what to weigh first as you consider living together or apart.
